Breakfast Time : PB & Oats

- Combine 2/3 cup oats with 1 cup water (some days I do 1/2 cup water, 1/2 cup skim milk for some extra protein) slow cooked on the stove top or microwaved 2:20.

- Stir in 1/2 chopped banana, 2 tbsp milled flax, 2 tbsp sugarfree strawberry preserves (which actually has 6g fibre!), and 1-2 tbsp all-natural Krema PB.

Yum!!  My girls eat a variety of PB & Oats all the time.  We usually add whatever fresh fruit we’ve got in the house!

PB Play-dough!

Hi Fellow PB Lovers!  I just got an email from a PB fan – Kelly Miller of California – and she had a fabulous idea for Mother’s Day : PB Play-dough!  Mix some of this up and you can play with your kids AND eat it too!  Here’s what Kelly writes…

“You mix all the ingredients together and you are ready to PLAY and EAT…You can also use fun (and healthy) things like coconut, raisins, dried blueberries, etc. to decorate. Bring out the cookie cutters and rolling pins and you are set…I have never had a child pass up the opportunity to break the rule of “no playing with your food.”‘

Ingredients: (small batch)
1 cup creamy, all-natural Krema PB
1/4 cup honey
3/4 cup powdered milk
(can add some powdered sugar if the play-dough is too sticky)

Thanks Kelly!!  What a fun and tasty idea!

Ants On A Log

I know this is not a new recipe per say – but I still thought I’d share how my daughter and I spent our afternoon snack-time together today!ants on a log

We made “Ants on a Log” with our fresh, organic celery that I picked up today from my share in a local organic buying club (which I totally love btw ;) ).ants on a log

What we did :
washed and cut celery
smothered on Krema PB (crunchy for me – creamy for her)
placed the ‘ants’ on the log!  (we used a mixture of raisins, dried cranberries, cherries and blueberries)ants on a log
This was a fun mommy daughter activity with great results : happy tummys full of yummy, nutritious snacks packed with all-natural protein (Krema PB), fresh veggies, and fruit!

The “PB trick”

My sweet little Peanut just turned four.  Before her third birthday she used to beg me for gum.  I kept telling her that she had to be three years old to chew gum.  Then her third birthday came.  Though she hadn’t spoken much about turning three and getting chewing gum – on her third birthday she excitedly awoke and opened presents and then asked “Can I have gum please?”  So, she had a piece of gum.  ONE piece and she kept it in her mouth all morning until she fell asleep in the car and it got stuck in her hair!  Eww!  Fortunately, I knew the “PB trick” and we got the sticky goo out of her hair pronto – no scissors necessary!  I then told her she would have to wait until MY birthday (a few months away) before she could have a piece of gum again.  She patiently waited and on my birthday, she reminded me of my promise – because of course she hadn’t forgotten!  I did keep my promise and gave her ONE piece of gum – which she somehow managed to get stuck in her hair AGAIN!  Eww!  Another “PB trick” later, gum is gone and banished until my daughter’s fourth birthday this time.  Well, her birthday was just over a month ago and she has successfully chomped on a few pieces of chewing gum since then…until last week!  My sister Stephanie gave my four year old a piece of spicy cinnamon gum in the car last week.  Even though she didn’t fall asleep with the gum in her mouth, she still somehow managed to get her gum tangled up in a disgusting wad in her long ‘princess’ like hair.  Did I use my “PB trick” again?  Of course!  And it worked like a charm.  Here’s my trick…

Pull out as many strands of hair from this yucky wad of sticky gum:

Lay the gum wad in a paper towel and slab on a spoonful of Krema all-natural PB using as much oil off the top of the jar as possible (creamy PB works best but I used crunchy PB here) :pb trick

Carefully use your fingers to massage PB and natural PB oils into the gum to remove all gum substances from hair.  Rinse strands of hair in luke-warm water in the sink and towel dry.  Then take a bath and wash all the peanut oil and PB residue from the affected hair :) pb trickHere is my adorable sister Stephanie, with my freshly washed, gum-free little peanut, who must now wait until her fifth birthday to have a piece of chewing gum again ;-)

Sammy of the Week : PB Sushi

I realize that I did not post a “Sammy of the Week” for the past two weeks!  What is wrong with me?!  Well, two weeks ago I was sooo overwhelmed with excitement from the spot on the TODAY SHOW and last week was St. Patrick’s Day and I was literally on my deathbed, sicker than I have ever been in my life!  I thought I was getting better but didn’t and am just now finally realizing that I am not going to die – I will eventually be 100% again.  Someday.

Until then, I just made up this incredible snack/Sammy/dessert…PB Sushi Rolls!  My Aunt Nanette had seen a similar version on Jessica Simpson’s twitter page back in January but it was totally unhealthy.  Jessica Simpson copied that idea from Pete Wentz or something like that…. Anywho, she called her creation a ‘Dream Dessert Sushi Roll’.  Jessica’s tweet says, “strawberry fruit roll up, PB&J with rice krispies…roll it up and enjoy :)

When Nanette heard about this she thought it could be such a fun idea to try with Krema PB!  Mmmm!  I agreed and finally I went last night to the store to buy the necessary ingredients for my PB Sushi Rolls.  I fully intended on purchasing the ingredients to make the exact same sushi rolls that Jessica Simpson had made and then making my own healthy version and compare the two.  At the store, I collected everything I needed and re-examined all of my items before heading to the check-out line.  I somewhat remorsefully report that I literally could NOT bring myself to buy Jessica’s ingredients!   The unpronounceable, chemical-filled ingredient lists were astounding!  Even the Rice Krispies!  High Fructose Corn Syrup?  In puffs of rice?  Is that really necessary?  Honestly.  What a disappointment.

I returned home with these two items…

Both are fabulous products.  Totally healthy, all-natural goodness and great taste.  Perfect compliments to our single ingredient – Krema PB!

Here’s how I made my yummilicious PB Sushi rolls…

Take a Smooshed Strawberry Fruit Flat, lay it on your plate.  Spread a generous layer of all-natural Krema PB (I used crunchy) all over one side of the Fruit Flat.  Then pour a handful of Crispy Brown Rice across the top – roll up like a sushi and eat it!  What a treat!PB Sushi

(Ignore the un-manicured fingernails and the ugly bandage on my thumb, evidence of the hazards of having children.  This phtoto is probably too yucky to post but I don’t have a better one – we scarfed these PB Sushi Rolls down soooo quickly :0)PB Sushi
